Privacy Policy

Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Detox for macOS and this website handle information. Detox is a sandboxed Mac App Store app for finding Reclaimable disk space and, only after your Confirmation, moving the Findings you selected to the Trash or applying an explicit Permanent delete choice.
The Detox app is designed to work on your Mac, not on our servers. The app does not require an account, does not contain advertising, does not include an analytics SDK controlled by us, and does not send us your files, file names, file paths, Scan results, Findings, Reclaimable sizes, Trash activity, or Clean history.
This policy also covers the limited information that may exist outside the app: messages you choose to send to support, purchase information handled by Apple, diagnostics Apple may provide through App Store Connect, and basic website analytics for this support site.
Who we are
Detox is the developer of the Detox macOS app and operator of this website. For privacy questions, contact support@detoxapp.website.
Information the app does not collect
The Detox app does not collect personal information from your Mac for us. In particular, the app does not send us:
- Your account identity, because Detox does not create accounts.
- Your files or file contents.
- File names, folder names, or file paths discovered during a Scan.
- Scan Roots you grant, including your Home folder or added folders.
- Findings, Inventory items, Reclaimable estimates, or measured sizes.
- Which Findings you select, Trash, or Permanently delete.
- Your User View or Dev View preference.
- Advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking identifiers.
Because we do not receive this information, we cannot use it to build a profile of your Mac, sell it, share it with advertisers, or provide it in response to ordinary support requests.
How on-device scanning works
Detox is a sandboxed App Store app. During onboarding, you may grant access to your Home folder through a security-scoped bookmark. You may also add other folders yourself. Detox uses those grants only to perform a local, read-only Scan for Findings and Inventory, show you what it found, and carry out a Clean only after your Confirmation.
A Scan is read-only. Detox does not remove anything during a Scan. When you confirm a Clean, the default action moves selected Findings to the Trash, where they remain recoverable until you empty the Trash. Permanent delete is a separate, opt-in choice inside the Confirmation.
The app never requests Full Disk Access. Some locations are Protected by macOS and remain unavailable to Detox. Other apps' data may be surfaced read-only where reachable, but Detox does not clean another app's live container data.
Local app data
Detox may store app preferences locally on your Mac so the app can remember choices such as granted Scan Roots, presentation preferences, and product state. These records are stored by macOS in the app's sandbox or related system storage on your device. They are not sent to us.
If you remove Detox, macOS may remove the app's sandboxed data according to Apple's platform behavior. Some purchase state may be restorable through Apple because Detox Pro is an App Store in-app purchase.
Purchases
Detox Pro is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase processed by Apple through the Mac App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card number, billing address, Apple Account password, or other payment credentials.
Apple may provide purchase status to the app so Detox can unlock unlimited Clean and support Restore Purchases. Apple's handling of App Store purchases is governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policy. Refund requests are handled through Apple.
Apple diagnostics and App Store data
Apple may provide developers with App Store Connect information such as download counts, sales reports, region-level statistics, and diagnostics or crash reports from users who have chosen to share diagnostics with app developers through Apple. These reports are controlled by Apple and are subject to Apple's privacy practices.
We use this information, when available, to understand app distribution, fix crashes, and improve reliability. We do not combine it with local Scan data, because local Scan data is not sent to us.
Support email
If you contact us at support@detoxapp.website, we receive your email address and any information you choose to put in your message. That may include screenshots, logs, file paths, or descriptions of your Mac if you decide they are useful for support. Please do not send sensitive files, passwords, payment details, or private information that is not needed for the support request.
We use support messages only to respond to you, troubleshoot the issue you raised, maintain our support records, and improve Detox. We do not add you to a mailing list because you contacted support, and we do not sell support correspondence.
This website
This website is the product and support website for Detox. Like most websites, it may create standard hosting logs that include information such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, referring page, and timestamp. Hosting logs are used for security, abuse prevention, debugging, and keeping the site available.
This website also uses Google Analytics to understand basic site usage, such as page views and general traffic patterns. Google Analytics may process information such as your IP address, device/browser details, approximate location, pages visited, referring links, and cookies or similar identifiers. Google processes that information according to Google's privacy practices.
Website analytics are separate from the Detox app. The Detox app does not send Google Analytics your files, Scan results, Findings, Clean history, or other app activity.
Cookies and similar technologies
The Detox app does not use cookies. This website may use cookies or similar browser storage for Google Analytics and ordinary website operation. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Some browsers also provide privacy controls or extensions that limit analytics scripts.
How we use information
We use the limited information described in this policy to:
- Provide and maintain the Detox app and this website.
- Respond to support questions you choose to send us.
- Understand App Store distribution and purchase status.
- Restore Detox Pro through Apple's purchase systems.
- Debug crashes or reliability issues using Apple-provided diagnostics.
- Measure website traffic and diagnose website problems.
- Protect the website from abuse, spam, and security incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We do not share Detox app Scan data because we do not receive it. We do not share support correspondence with advertisers or data brokers.
Limited information may be processed by service providers that help us operate the product and website, such as Apple for App Store distribution, purchases, and diagnostics; our email provider for support correspondence; our hosting provider for this website; and Google for website analytics. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or services.
Retention
Local Detox app data remains on your Mac unless you delete it or macOS removes it. We do not set a server-side retention period for Scan results or Clean history because those records are not sent to us.
Support emails are kept as long as reasonably needed to answer your request, maintain support history, handle follow-up questions, and meet legal or operational needs. Website logs and analytics data are retained according to the settings and practices of our hosting and analytics providers.
Security
Detox's main privacy protection is data minimization: the app performs Scans locally and avoids sending app activity to us. The app is also distributed as a sandboxed Mac App Store app, so file access is limited to the scope granted by the user and by macOS.
No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure. If you contact support, choose carefully what you include in the message. Sensitive local file details are usually not needed unless we specifically ask for them to diagnose a problem.
Children
Detox is a general-purpose macOS utility and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through support email, contact us and we will handle the request appropriately.
Your choices and rights
You control what Detox can access by choosing which folders to grant as Scan Roots and by choosing what to Clean. You can remove folder grants in the app where supported, change macOS privacy permissions, delete the app, control website cookies in your browser, and choose whether to share diagnostics with developers in Apple's system settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information we hold about you. Because the Detox app does not send us Scan data, the personal information we can usually search is limited to support messages and records handled through our service providers. To make a privacy request, email support@detoxapp.website.
International processing
If you use this website or contact support, information may be processed in countries other than where you live, depending on the infrastructure used by our hosting, email, analytics, and App Store service providers. Those providers may maintain their own privacy terms and safeguards.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change materially affects the Detox app's privacy practices, we will take reasonable steps to make the change visible, such as noting it in release notes or on this website.
